As the Online Director for the Third Coast Author and Book Festival, I get to design and build the online infrastructure for the festival, as well as coordinate and create the online promotion and branding of the festival.
This includes...
Creating an iconic, consistent, recognizable brand
Coordinating media appearances for festival team members
Building community between festival-goers
Organizing social media collaborations between the festival and authors and influencers
Creating original social media content
Directing first time interests in the festival to newsletter forms or other places to stay engaged and cultivate long term interest in the festival
Writing in-depth newsletters that build community bonds among fans of the festival
Run and coordinate customer service for the festival
Building the digital behind the scenes for author sign-ups
Graphic design of festival posters and maps
There's author panels, and even live music. In 2026, Third Coast was predicted to draw 22,000 - 25,000 people: a huge number.
Third Coast is the reason Grand Haven, Michigan - the town where the festival is held - has been transformed into the "Literary Capital of the Lakes." Third Coast catapulted the town onto the national stage, and Third Coast is now one of the largest regional gatherings of literary creatives, publishers, poets, and artists.
Out of the festival blossomed the indie publishing house, Third Coast Literary Press, along with a million other reasons to call Grand Haven the Literary Capital of the Lakes.
